Medals of merit for the promotion of better work environments
The committee on medals of merit for better work environments operates in connection with the Workers’ Compensation Center. The committee processes applications for medals of recognition and special recognition for the promotion of better working environments. The committee on medals of merit for better work environments is appointed by TVK’s Board of Directors and consists of representatives of the relevant authorities, labour market organisations and experts in the field. The Board of Directors of TVK confirms the committee’s rules of procedure.
Medals of merit for the promotion of better work environments include:
- Gold medal of special merit for the promotion of better work environments
- Bronze medal of merit.
The gold medal of special merit may be awarded to persons who have made particularly distinguished and long-standing nationwide efforts to promote better work environments. The bronze medal of merit may be awarded to persons who have made distinguished efforts to promote a better work environment at their workplace.
Work environment medals of merit may also be awarded to organisations.
Applying for the medals
The gold medal of special merit is applied with an application form and an enclosed free-form application letter. The deadline for applications is 15 March. The medal of special merit is awarded by the Minister responsible for occupational health and safety upon proposal by the committee. Applications for medals of special merit are processed once a year. Between 1 to 3 medals are usually awarded annually.
Bronze medals of merit can be applied from the committee on medals of merit for better work environments. The application for medals is always open. Bronze medals of merit are awarded by the committee.

Using the medals
The gold and bronze work environment medals of merit can be used in official events. They can be worn alongside other Finnish decorations. The recipient also receives a certificate of ownership.
