Claims processing

The employer’s insurance obligation and the details of the insurance policy are checked when the claim is processed. In the case of occupational diseases, the employment contract which determines the liable insurer is also established.

The claim will be instituted in the Workers’ Compensation Center (TVK) after it has been confirmed that the employer has failed to take out an insurance policy under the Workers’ Compensation Act for the employees. The claim will be processed in writing, and TVK will obtain the necessary reports from the health care provider, employer, the authorities and other instances.

If the process is prolonged and the payment of daily allowance is delayed, the injured person can contact TVK’s compensation service. TVK can issue a certificate of delay based on which the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) makes a decision on the daily allowance under the Health Insurance Act.

Invoices related to the accident should be sent to TVK, even when the claimant is not sure whether they are compensable. We require the original payment receipts (or a copy of the balance statement) for any expenses. When the case has been resolved, the decision is sent to the injured person by post. The decision can be appealed.
